Review - This Is The End

Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson and Jay Baruchel have all made people laugh in movies over the years but they have never done it together in one film, until now.

Superbad, Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder are easily amongst the funniest comedies in recent years and have each featured at least two of the six actors. So, it is no surprise that This Is The End is one of the most eagerly anticipated comedies ever.

Written and directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, This Is The End sees James Franco throwing a housewarming party that every comedy actor in Hollywood seems to be attending, along with Emma Watson and Rihanna.

The party is in full swing when the Apocalypse commences.

Most of the partygoers, including an on form Michael Cera, die leaving Rogen, Franco, Hill McBride, Robinson and Baruchel to take refuge in Franco's house until someone attempts to rescue them. Along the way, the gang face demons and monsters while also managing to have a run-in with a very angry Emma Watson.

Part of the appeal of the movie is that these guys are playing themselves and they have a lot of fun mocking their own careers throughout. The jokes come thick and fast and there is great chemistry between each and every one of the actors which makes the movie flow smoothly.

McBride and Baruchel have never really caught my attention before but they were very good here. McBride steals many of the scenes he is in and Baruchel does well up against bigger comedy stars Rogen and Hill.

There were people in the audience that, as I expected, laughed at every single line in the movie but I didn't find all of it funny. Don't get me wrong though, when this movie is funny it is very funny however, I got the impression these people were just laughing because Seth Rogen or Jonah Hill were making the jokes.

By the end I thought it went on just a bit too long but that didn't stop me liking the movie.

This Is The End always ran the risk of being unfunny and a massive waste of time but thankfully these guys have pulled it out of the bag. Fans of previous movies featuring these actors will love it but if you haven't watched any of their films before, I urge you to watch some before you witness This Is The End.

Oh and if you are a fan of the Backstreet Boys, you will love the end to this movie!

Verdict: 3/5
